With a strong academic background and extensive research experience, I am Dr Giuseppe Silvestri, an expert in the field of mammalian embryology and reproductive medicine. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology from the University of Naples Federico II in Italy, followed by an MSc in Reproductive Medicine and a PhD in Genetics from the University of Kent in the UK. As a full member of the Association of Embryo Technology in Europe (AETE) and the Genetics Society, I am deeply committed to advancing our understanding of embryo production and genetic testing techniques.
My research primarily focuses on mammalian embryology, with a particular emphasis on developing efficient strategies for farm animal embryo production. I am dedicated to improving in vitro maturation (IVM) methods to obtain high-quality embryos from young donors. Additionally, I am exploring the application of preimplantation genetic testing in farm animal embryo production systems, which can greatly benefit breeders by allowing the selection of desirable embryos and the removal of those affected by chromosomal disorders.
Throughout my career, I have established strong collaborations with companies not only in the UK but also in Europe and North America. This practical approach to research has enabled me to stay updated with industry trends and establish valuable connections within the field.
In addition to my research endeavors, I am passionate about teaching and mentoring students. As an associate fellow of the Higher Education Academy, I have extensive experience in supervising both undergraduate and postgraduate students. I am actively involved in delivering the BI842 module “The IVF World” as part of the MSc Reproductive Medicine: Science and Ethics at the University of Kent. This module covers theoretical and practical aspects of IVF, including oocyte retrieval, andrology, and micromanipulation, among others.
